This ensemble was worn by Gwen Kagey who was a professional dancer. She danced professionally in Europe, including Paris Ballet and Madrid, Spain, and London, The United States, including Broadway, and Mexico. Gwen later taught at Ohio State University and in Spain, France and London.

Description
An account of the resource
Jacket is a medium blue silk brocade, 37 " in length, 37" inches from sleeve edge to sleeve edge with a 2" embroidered mandarin collar, trimmed in 1/2" black satin bands framed with gold soutache. Jacket yolk, front and bottom edges, and 8 " side slits are trimmed with 4 !/4"cream band embellished with blue, and gold embroidery in floral design and banded in 1/2" black satin bands framed in gold soutache.
Collar and yolk are fastened with three 3/8" gold ball buttons and black braid loops. Jacket front fastens on proper left side with two 3/8" gold ball buttons and black braid loops. Sleeves are banded with 3" gold satin bands. Front sleeve band is embroidered in front with a single flower motif in blue; back sleeve band is heavily embroidered with a blue, cream, gold and black floral design. Interior is fully lined in pale blue silk.
Skirt is peach, black, green brocaded silk; gold and multiple shades of blue embroidery in pique and satin stitches, forms roses and bats in main panel, with other floral motifs in black banding and in between pleats.

Blouse (huipil) from the highland region of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, Central America. Embroidered by a Mayan Indian woman (nanny) in 1910. The main bird in the middle of the blouse is a Quetzal, The national bird of Guatemala. The other animals and flowers are symbolic and traditional of the country.
