This dress was worn by Jane Linn Gale. Jane was the daughter of Milman Linn, Sr. who was the president of the Zanesville Stoneware Company. Jane was born in Zanesville in 1910 and would go on to attend the Columbus School for Girls as well as Ohio State University. After her formal education, she attended Berea College, Berea, Ky., to study handweaving, and taught the craft at the Zanesville Art Institute when it was located on Adair Avenue.

Very heavy black, short wool crepe sleeveless late afternoon or evening dress with attached beaded belt.
- neckline to hem continuous fabric units
- wide shallow scooped neckline
- sleeveless
- Semi fitted bodice from shoulder to high hip similar to dropped waist styling but no drop waistline seam
- Front bodice - center front seam and princess seams from shoulder to drop waist area
- Back bodice - center back seam with hand picked zipper final stitching; princess seams from shoulder to drop waist area
- Skirt or lower section of dress: long (18" long) and wide godets (~12" at hem) extend from front and back center seams and from front and back princess seams in bodice giving moderate fullness to otherwise tailored dress
- fabric is very, very heavy wool crepe
- upper part of dress or bodice lined in black silk satin
- Belt trim - attached to dress; Black jet beaded belt (1/4" diameter) caught by square 5/8" pave jeweled buttons at center front and back princess seams at point where godets flare from bodice or upper area of dress; 2.25" beaded tassel on each end of the belt.

Description

Bill Blass for Maurice Rentner A-line dress in pale green with diagonal metallic stripes in gold and soft bronze. Mini dress, above knee, with V-neck. Three-quarter sleeve cut on to bodice front and back with two piece gussets under arm. Sleeve opens six inches from hem with self fabric ball button and button loop detail at end of seam where opening starts. Dress is fully underlined with 1.25" seam allowances.

This dress belonged to Dorothy Bell Whiley Peters. Dorothy was born in Lancaster, Ohio in 1891. Her father, Charles Bell Whiley, worked as lawyer in Lancaster. Dorothy married Philip Rising Peters in 1914. While Philip would pass away in 1954, Dorothy would live to be 100 years old. She was a member of the Columbus Circle of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of Ohio. Dorothy was also a lover of poetry and her children published a collection of her work after her passing.

Bill Blass black velvet, ice blue, green and fuchsia faille strapless evening gown. Strapless pieced bodice of black velvet and ice blue silk faille in diagonal design front and back. Four strips of boning: side seams and side fronts; silk broadcloth lining; invisible center back zipper extending into skirt. Hook and eye at top edge of back bodice. Silk or rayon twill strips for hanging of garment attached to back bodice; thread loops at front edge of bodice over bust loop through twill strips to support garment during hanging. Piping at waistline seam in ice blue faille. Black grosgrain ribbon inside waistline stay with hook and eye closure at center back.
Floor length faille skirt pieced in diagonal design of ice blue at top, apple green in middle and fuchsia at hem; gathered into waistline seam. Double skirt on garment attached at waistline seam. Under skirt of silk organza at waist and half way down skirt with fuchsia faille at lower half. Underskirt connected to overskirt with thread loops at side seams.

Frederick was a well-known photographer and style-setter in New York City. They were key figures in the New York social scene in the 1960s and 70s. Isabel was a graduate of Bryn Mawr and a published writer.

Two-piece long evening dress. Light blue silk chiffon with beige velvet burnout pattern. a) Tunic style top with bateau neckline, back with slit and three self-covered buttons closure. Long dolman sleeves gathered wrist to elbow terminating in short zippers at wrist. Bodice gathered either side under the dolman sleeve creating a rounded bottom; lined with beige chiffon. b) Long straight skirt. Elastic waist band. Five 11.5" tucks at center back releasing to create back fullness. Lined in a double layer of beige silk chiffon with back slit; lining layers stitched together at slit to act as one layer.
