Galanos, James 1986; electric blue silk and wool dress and belt
Style 675 Fall 1986 a) dress b) belt. The dress (a) bodice is cut on the straight of grain with a seam line in the center front. It has a round neckline, finished with a self fabric facing. The bodice center back edge is turned under and open to the waistline with four self fabric buttons and loops at the top half of the center back and a hook and eye at the neck edge. There are full length batwing sleeves with smocking along the bodice/sleeve seam line with vertical darts from the bottom of the smocking to the waistline in the front. There are shoulder pads covered with a similar color fabric. The sleeve edges have three 4-1/2 inch tucks that create a fitted cuff. They have hand set zipper closures at the wrist edge. The skirt is A line, cut on the bias with a hand set zipper in the left seam line. The left side of the back of the bodice has two skirt hooks and five covered snaps that attach it to the left side of the skirt waist line. All seam allowances are finished with bias binding in a crepe like fabric. The face of the belt (b) is the same fabric as the dress. It is two inches wide, gently curved, with a sort of triangular shape buckle. It has seven rows of top stitching along the length of the belt. The belt is backed with blue leather, it has an adjustable length and a two prong closure. The belt end has two small holes for the closure hardware and one larger hole, presumably to hang the belt. The holes are finished with machine zig-zag. ca. 1986
