This dress belonged to Mrs. Harvey S. Firestone Jr. Born Elizabeth Parke in Decatur, Illinois in 1897 she was the daughter of Guy James Parke and Gertrude Chambers Parke. As a girl she attended Leed's School in England and Rosemary Hall in Greenwich, Connecticut, and graduated from Miss Wheeler's School in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1921, Elizabeth married Harvey S. Firestone Jr., the heir to the The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. They lived in Akron, Ohio and Newport, Rhode Island. Each year Mrs. Firestone traveled to Paris to purchase her clothes directly from designers and during the 1950s she was nominated for The Couture Group of the New York Dress Institute Inc.'s Best Dressed Women's list several times. Mrs. Firestone passed away in October, 1990 at the age of 93.

Description

Teal green double breasted wool blazer with straight skirt. Skirt has tucks at front waist, slit side pockets, and a CB kick pleat. Blazer has long notched collar with lapels, six 1 black buttons, pocket flaps both sides front, left breast pocket w/ 1 welt. Straight 2-piece sleeves have three 3/4 buttons on each vent.
Cream brocade dress blouse with front bow, long sleeves and five button back neck closure. Forward front shoulder yoke and shoulder pads, stand collar with stitched on bow at center front neckline. Two box pleats vertically down center front. Placket back opening with five covered buttons and self -fabric button loops. Two buttons on collar unit and three on back bodice unit. Long sleeves, full gathers at cap and 1.5" cuff with one self-fabric covered button on each cuff.

Self fabric covered belt is held in position with thread loops at each side seam *and a thread loop at center front to hold stem of buckle in place.

This suit belonged to Dorothy Bell Whiley Peters. Dorothy was born in Lancaster, Ohio in 1891. Her father, Charles Bell Whiley, worked as lawyer in Lancaster. Dorothy married Philip Rising Peters in 1914. While Philip would pass away in 1954, Dorothy would live to be 100 years old. She was a member of the Columbus Circle of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of Ohio. Dorothy was also a lover of poetry and her children published a collection of her work after her passing.

Bodice with pointed roll collar. <br />Center front seam with slanted placket, 6" long, with 3 1" black sew through buttons/bound butonholes. Short dolman sleeves, cut one with bodice front and back with attached 1 1/2" wide cuffs. Under arm gusset. Vertical darts at shoulder and waist. Darts at back neckline; 3 small darts at back waist. 7" length of gray crepe de chine added at lower bodice to be tucked into skirt. Two snaps in front and back for attaching to skirt. Center back zipper, hook/eye. Attached inner chemise with hook/eye closure. <br /><br />b. Narrow skirt with center front and side front seams. 6" pleat at back skirt hem. Center back zipper; hook/eye. Fully interlined.

1950s Brown Dior Suit
Description
An account of the resource
Brown wool Christian Dior skirt suit with black velvet neckline inset.
a. Jacket: High hip length jacket with lapel collar and very large curved lapels going into left side assymetrical closing. Very wide lapel stitched or tacked to collar to hold in position. Front and back princess seams (into shoulder at front and armscye at back). Front angled assymetrical closure with six buttons and bound buttonholes. Slanted 1.5" wide welt pockets below waist on left and right front which curve around to side back of jacket. Curved lower front edge.
Vent at center back. Garment shaped at waist giving lower section almost a peplum look.
Long set- in two-piece sleeves with two button/bound buttonhole vents at sleeve edge. Jacket lined with medium brown silk crepe.
b. Skirt: Straight skirt with center front and center back one-inch wide stitched down tuck. Tuck stitched to below thigh at front releasing to free vent below. Front tuck undersection extends to side seam right side seam but not included in side seam. Back tuck stitched to below thigh and released to walking vent. Undersection of back vent extends to left side seam but not included in side seam. Front vent extension stitched into waistline seam. Back vent extension is loose and secured at left waistband with hook and eye.
Set on waistband. Center back closure of four snaps, instead of a zipper, and four hooks and eyes to secure waistband. Unlined and no pockets.
