Description

Green and black floral print dress, short sleeves, v-neckline and three ruffle flounces for the skirt.
a. Dress
Dress has round neckline with center front open at neckline to 8" below neckline; stitched below to waistline with 1/2" lap covering seam.Set-in short sleeves. Side-back and side front darts go into waistline seam. Left side zipper opening. Three rows of 8" ruffles hang from hip to form skirt; ruffles controlled by 1/2"darts placed about 2" apart around entire skirt at each level; each dart is 4" long. Thread belt loops at left and right side seam waistlines

b. Belt
1/2" wide narrow self-fabric covered belt and buckle.

Provenance

This dress belonged to Dorothy Bell Whiley Peters. Dorothy was born in Lancaster, Ohio in 1891. Her father, Charles Bell Whiley, worked as lawyer in Lancaster. Dorothy married Philip Rising Peters in 1914. While Philip would pass away in 1954, Dorothy would live to be 100 years old. She was a member of the Columbus Circle of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of Ohio. Dorothy was also a lover of poetry and her children published a collection of her work after her passing.
