Provenance

This suit belonged to Helen Hope Montgomery who was married to Edgar Scott. Helen was born in 1904 to Colonel Robert Leaming Montgomery and Charlotte Hope Binnie Tyler Montgomery. Her father founded the investment firm now known as Janney Montgomery Scott. Helen was a famous socialite and philanthropist in Philadelphia and was the inspiration for the character of Tracy Lord, the main character in the play The Philadelphia Story.
