1880's Brown Silk Dress

Description

Brown silk twill bustle dress with brass and glass beaded trim on bodice and appliqued brocade trim on skirt.
Bodice has 19 cut metal buttons down center front. Flat-lined with beige and white striped cotton (?) twill. All seams have whip stitched finishing, waist tape closes at center front with hook and eye. Horse hair padding on inside front of bodice to give shape. Detachable mandarin collar. Three double box pleats on back of bodice. Long shaped sleeve.
Skirt has asymmetrical front with horizontally appliqued brown and ivory brocade trim. Vertical pleats on front right, and set in vertical pleats on front left. Pleated valance on upper right proper of skirt and pleated drape with bow on left proper of skirt. Pleated bustling on back of skirt, closes on left back proper of skirt. Attached petticoat with sewn in bustle boning and elastic straps to hold bustle in place.
