De Givenchy, Hubert; 1967 Black Lace Dress
Description
Black, strapless, Hubert de Givenchy ball gown, made in 3 layers. Inside layer is a silk netting bustier with nine vertical lines of boning (boning is missing from 3 channels). There is black grosgrain ribbon tacked at the waistline that fastens in back. The bustier has a hand set zipper on the left side. The black silk crepe lining (middle layer) is a knee length sheath that is folded over the bustier and tacked inside at the top of the bodice. It has a hand set zipper on the left side with a hook and eye at the top at the top of the bodice. The outside layer is silk crepe net with a fitted bodice and flared skirt. The skirt is below the knee length in front and floor length in the back. It has silk organza ribbon embroidery in large rosettes following the design on the netting. The top part of the skirt is made from one layer of netting with embroidery and is semi sheer. The last nine inches around the bottom of the skirt is a gathered ruffle overlay of the ribbon embroidered material. Inside the skirt, at the top of the ruffle is a band of horsehair type stiffening material. The outer layer has a placket in the left side seam from the bodice top to below the hip that closes with hooks and eyes. There is a small black metal bar sew on the bodice front, approx. mid line 2-1/2 inches from the waistline.
