1980s Blue Silk Beaded Dress and Jacket

Grey/blue silk crepe pleated dress/ beaded jacket and belt below knee length cocktail dress.

Jacket: Silk crepe jacket with peplum created by elastic encased at waistline; hook and eye closure at center front waistline. Collar less with open front, cardigan style. Set in long sleeves. Two layers of fabric: silk crepe under layer with silk georgette outer layer. Iridescent blue bugle beading for sleeve borders and in front bodice. Lighter iridescent blue/green sequins in floral motif form vertical design with bugle bead vines along front bodice. Four thread belt loops at waistline to which half inch wide silk crepe belt is attached. Belt features three rows of dark iridescent bugle bead along length of belt. Belt overlaps at center front four inches with hook and eye at one end and snap at other end for closure.
Dress: Slip style dress with half inch wide straps trimmed in iridescent blue bugle beads attach to bodice front and back. Slightly fitted bodice in silk crepe with grosgrain ribbon inner waist stay/hook and eye fastener. Three in deep yoke at waist to high hip; 3/4 inch knife pleated skirt hangs from yoke. Center back hand picked zipper opening. Silk lining.

This ensemble belonged to Mary C. Fey. Mary was born in Greece in 1933 and later immigrated with her parents and siblings to the U.S. Her father, Pericles Callimanopulos, founded the shipping company, Hellenic Lines in 1934. Mary graduated magna cum laude from Wheaton College and worked as a registered representative with the investment banking firm of Moseley, Hallgarten, Estabrook, Inc. prior to her marriage to John Fey in 1976. John Fey was chairman of the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States. John was also a former president of the Universities of Vermont and Wyoming and the National Life Insurance Company.
