Provenance

The use of violets as trim on this cape indicate it was worn during later stages of observing mourning for a loved one. The donor, Margaret Robbins Mitchell, had a great-grandmother who passed away on Christmas Day 1892. This short cape could have been worn either by Margaret's mother, Anna Pearl Aultman, or her grandmother, Rebecca Ann Greenwalt, during the prescribed period of mourning.

Decade

1890-1899
