Ensemble of Wrap Sweater and Skirt
Sweater
Sweater is likely rayon, with beige background with horizontal stripe and chevron pattern in deep orange, rust, brown and light green. Deep V neckline is self faced; facing turns bac. Sweater has long sleeves with fold back cuffs. There is a 4" wide beige knit band around lower edge extends to tie on right side. Beige modesty bodice which snaps into front; appears to have been added to original garment.

Skirt
Three gore skirt of mid calf length. Skirt is slim fitting with two darts in both front and back. Skirt has 1.5" wide waistband, topstitched in gold. Skirt has a side placket with snaps for closure. Skirt is constructed of dark green crepe.

Provenance

This sweater belonged to Pauline F. McDowell. Pauline attended Muskingum College, and likely purchased this sweater around the year of her graduation in 1923. Pauline was born in Fairfield, Illinois to Maud and R.E. Finch. Pauline married George McDowell in 1923.

This skirt was part of an ensemble that was the "going away" suit for Mrs. James McGavran in 1936.
