Description

Black rayon chiffon and jersey Isabel Toledo dress with narrow cord tie belt
Jersey bodice crosses to side seams in front and back creating V neckline in font and back. Bodice is gathered onto chiffon waistband with vertical pintucks; 5" wide at center front and center back, curving to 7" wide at side seams. Long narrow dolman sleeves finished with 2" double layer square of chiffon. Very full jersey skirt gathered over waistband. Chiffon underskirt. Neckline, sleeve cuff and skirt hem are finished in picot edge. Side invisible zipper. 130" narrow cord belt.

Provenance

In Los Angeles in the 1990s, punk/goth boutiques purchased traditional Mexican mourning dresses and sold them in their stores as goth fashion. Toledo nods to both the Mexican and the music traditions with this dress.
