1960's Red Dress and Jacket
Description
Dress: Low round neckline, with no shoulder seams. Bust darts and armscye set-in panels. Shoulder darts on back bodice. Below knee-length dome-style skirt. Hook-and-eye closure top center-back. Zipper closure along center-back. Lined in red silk.
Jacket: Short jacket with four mock-flap pockets. (Only flap is attached - there are no pockets). Two (now pink) red large, round, four-holed buttons on left front side. Buttonholes are on right side. Basic, 2-piece, notched collar. Lined in red silk.

Provenance
This dress belonged to Annie Glenn, wife of John Glenn. Annie wore this ensemble at a ceremony for John Glenn at the NASA center in Cape Canaveral. It was in honor of the successful flight of Friendship 7 in February of 1962.
Annie was born Anna Margaret Castor in Columbus, Ohio on February 17, 1920. She graduated from Muskingum College in 1942 with a BS in Music and Education. Her family moved to New Concord, Ohio in 1923 and became friends with the family of John Glenn, Sr. Annie and John Glenn, Jr. were childhood playmates, then high school sweethearts and were finally married in 1943. The Glenns have two children: John David (born December 13, 1945) and Carolyn Ann (born March 19, 1947).
